Fair Isle Yoke Bag

Instructor: Janette Budge       Class Capacity: 25
Class Level: Advanced beginner and beyond.

Description ~ Fair Isle Yoke Bag

Have fun learning how to knit Fair Isle. In this class you will cover ways to attach new colors, different ways you can hold your yarns, how to carry your yarn at the back (floats), achieve an even tension and tips on colour choice and patterns. This project is knit in the round. Each student will have the chance to make their own fair isle color combination from over 100 Shetland wool colors. Janette will give techniques on how to get the look you are after, whether you want a more subtle look, traditional or bold and bright.

Materials Needed ~ Fair Isle Yoke Bag

  • Needles - 4-5 DPNs or circular needle suitable for 88 – 96 sts in size 3 –3.5mm.

  • Yarn - Janette encourages everyone to bring a selection of yarn in various colors to share.

  • Please bring a minimum of 5 x 25g different colored balls of fingering weight Shetland wool such as Jamison's of Shetland Spindrift, Jamieson and Smith jumper weight or similar. In a variety of tones, some light, some mid and some dark yarn colors. Think about including some heathery yarns as well as some solids.

  • The yarns everyone brings will be shared amongst the class after the colour blending section of the class to complete your class project.

  • Janette will bring a small additional selection of around 20 x 25g balls.

  • Janette is happy to make a more extensive list or to answer any questions by email. Janette has a method of calculating how much yarn is needed per row so each ball of yarn can be shared between 2-3 people.

  • This should give everyone a selection of approx. 100 yarn colors from which to choose.

  • If you are not taking the class on knitting belts, you are welcome to order one but it is not necessary. If you plan to learn how to use a belt that will not be covered in this class.

  • Janette will do a knitting belt demonstration with the option to try a row on on her project using her belt.
